Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan is a blonde-haired blue-eyed, blonde-haired woman with an exuberant personality. She was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra to Susan (Duggan) who was she was an English teacher and a former actor. Harry Hyra was a math teacher. Her ancestry includes Ruthenian, Polish and Irish as well as German. ("Hyra") is her Ruthenian surname and "Ryan" is her maternal grandmother's maiden. Meg was graduated in June 1979 Bethel high school, Bethel. Meg then moved to New York City and studied journalism at New York University. Meg Ryan, her new name, began acting in order to earn money while she completed her education. In the year 1981, she made her debut on the big screen with an appearance in a short scene as Candice Bergen's daughter in George Cukor's final film Rich and Famous (1981). She was cast in the character as Betsy in the soap opera as the World Turns (1956) after she had a go at. She was a part of the cast from 1982 to 1984. Meg was also a character in the television series One of the Boys (1982), but this show was later cancelled. She relocated to Hollywood in 1984, and was offered an opportunity to be a part of the western television series Wildside (1985). Meg was a small part in Top Gun (1986), which led to her casting in Steven Spielberg’s Innerspace (1987) where she starred alongside Dennis Quaid. Meg was also a co-star with Quaid in the remake of D.O.A. (1988) and the couple tied the knot on Saint Valentine's Day in 1991. Meg appeared in When Harry Met Sally... (1989), which made the scene in the restaurant famous. Meg was nominated both for the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. Also, she was part of the critically acclaimed Sleepless in Seattle (1993), where she was nominated for the Golden Globe. Meg chose to take on a different role than her peers in 1994, playing the character of Meg as a drunken mother/wife in the film When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). She went back to being "cute" following that film with I.Q. (1994) and French Kiss (1996). People Magazine named Meg "Woman Of The Year" in 1994 with the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award.
